I bought a four-pack of this drink that I saw in our local Giant Food store for a family birthday party. I thought it would be a nice change of pace from the usual soda. My birthday party attendees love beer, but I didn't want them to drink and then have to drive over an hour back home on unfamiliar roads. So, I got this instead.
I was ready with my bottle opener in hand but found that the tops are twist off. Upon twisting off the top, there was a familiar hiss of carbonation and ginger-y smell. It has a satisfying brown color and it's pretty fizzy. The main thing I noticed right away about this soft drink was that it is SPICY! It is much spicier than regular ginger ale and it almost had a spiciness that one might find in a hard apple cider. It definitely was not too sweet. No noticeable diet soda aftertaste either, which was pleasant and surprising. Just to let you know exactly how spicy this is, my "spice sensitive" husband couldn't drink it.
We were eating pizza with this, which I suppose was fine, but I really feel that this would pair very well with a fish and chips, burgers or chicken.
After drinking at least two bottles of this, I noticed a peculiar thing. It made me sneeze and actually seemed to help clear my sinuses. I went on Google to confirm this phenomenon and it turns out that ginger actually has that effect on others. The sneezing wasn't bothersome enough to make me avoid this soda. I really loved its different, spicy bite.
If you like ginger ale but long for something more flavorful, I would say to give this a try.
Love the Moscow Mule recipe on the back label! I know you can't see it, but the first ingredient is vodka.
Unfortunately, this does have Acesulfame Potassium and Sucralose and no natural sweeteners, but hey, you can't have everything. I do limit my intake of diet drinks, but I would make an exception for this. It's that good.
